How to Stop the Dirty Little Habit of Fitness Procrastination

We are all procrastinators. Either consciously or subconsciously we delay, stall and put off various tasks that will make a positive difference in our lives. Procrastinating can be a learned trait from our parents or derived at birth. Habits are very hard to change without a conscious, deliberate action taken on our part.

Traditionally, procrastination has been associated with perfectionism, a tendency to negatively evaluate outcomes and one's own performance. It is an intense fear and avoidance of judgment of your abilities by others. Heightened social self-consciousness, anxiety, recurrent low moods, and workaholism are the results of compulsory procrastination.

So how did we get into this mess? Procrastination is like any other habit. Our daily routine tends to be the same if we are not aware of the habits that this can create. We all seek pleasure in our lives. Most every action we take on a daily basis is done to avoid pain, save time, save money and increase pleasures.

We create a false sense of pleasure by talking ourselves out of walking, weight loss blunders, job searches and relationship issues with procrastination. It feels good to tell ourselves, "I will start this in the morning so I can go to the park this afternoon with my kids." Unfortunately, this is temporary. It is also fatal. This procrastination leads to more stress. More stress leads to more procrastination to stop the pain. The cycle feeds on itself. The good news is exercise and better fitness lower our stress levels drastically.

I read a quote that in summary says, "Yesterday is a canceled check with tomorrow an IOU but today is tasks at hand." Read that line again! The most precious asset we all have is time. No one has more than you. We only have today as a promise on this earth. Stop putting off your dreams and desires by procrastinating. So how do I do that you ask?

First, dig deep into your soul. No one else has to know what you are feeling inside. Why are you putting this goal off? Are you a perfectionist? Are you doing the right weight lifts or aerobic steps? Do you think if it is not absolutely perfect it does not count? That is farthest from the truth.

Break down the goal or task into many small manageable actions. Do not try to lose 50 pounds, go to the gym every day, and eat 45% less food all in one month. This is not reasonable. Start by only having 1 soda a day instead of 3. Switch from 2% milk to 1% milk for a month. After a month switch to skim milk. You will get use to it and the habit of drinking high fat content milk is over.

You must create new habits. New habits take 21 days on average to form. If you take on too drastic a change at first, the 21 days will become your nightmare in life. Also, a friend or family member will help the days go by much faster via motivation.

Get mad! Emotions are the most powerful driving force in our lives. Admit to yourself that we all buy products, eat foods and relate to others by emotions. We will justify the actions in some logical way but the emotions drive our actions. "I am fed up with dieting and weight loss products" is a great emotional statement that will create action.

Tell other people what you are going through. Tell them your plans to stop the habit. Do not be embarrassed. They too have their own demons and secrets. Many times they will ask you to help them or join them to conquer procrastination together. Holding each other accountable for stopping procrastination is another powerful habit changing action.

Finally, momentum is the key. Momentum is an action moving fast that will not stop easily once the driving forces (you) starts the pushing. It is much easier to keep the procrastination demon at bay when the daily habits of actions and thoughts take hold. This is where other people are important to your success with procrastination. They will push you and coach you because they want you to do the same for them.

Procrastination, like many other habits, is easily broken when it is replaced by a new habit. New habits take time, effort and energy. You did not learn procrastination overnight and it does take 21 days to break that habit. Make today the defining point in your life to stop procrastination and get in shape for the body you want now.

How To Prevent Diabetes With Atkins Diet Menu Plan

Atkins diet has lately grown in recognition for the reason that every day more people become knowledgeable about the dangers of excessive weight.

Since a lot of individuals have a problem keeping with a diet low in fat, they began searching for new ways to lose fat and they have gotten a great one in a diet Dr.Atkins invented.

As of late a large amount of people with weight problem have started to use diet invented by Dr.Atkins, and the final results that a number of them achieved have as a consequence a large publicity.

Fundamentals of Dr.Atkins diet

The Atkins diet is build on a suggestion of the reason why we grow excess fat. In this theory proposed by Dr. Atkins, eating high quantities of simple sugars and carbohydrates can cause weight gain. The way in which our body system treat the simple carbohydrates that are a part of our regular diet is much more significant then the calories consumed.

Lots of times in his book Dr.Atkins points out to occurrence which he calls the insulin resistance. The theory is that a lot of over weight people have a problem with their body cells and that those cells do not perform as good as they should.

When we consume excessive amount of sugars and carbohydrates, our bodies observe that amounts of sugar are very high. Insulin is produced by the pancreas gland as a system to gather sugar in a nature of glycogen. This sugar is then being accumulated in our muscles and liver for extra energy afterward in cases when we need it.

The difficulty is that our bodies have the limit in the amount of glycogen that can be stored at once. The moment that we reach this limit our bodies commence gather it as fat, for emergency.

However insulin resistant group of people have a even more difficult time storing carbohydrates. As your body is exposed to more and more insulin, it gradually becomes resistant to it. Your body cells are as matter of fact protecting them selves from high amounts of insulin doing this. Because of that, they produce more fat and smaller amount of glycogen.

Accordingly insulin resistant people start gain additional fat. Reason for this is that the carbohydrates are processed into fat and not energy. Some common side effects are fatigue, lack of focus, sleepiness, bad memory, high blood sugar, low blood sugar.

Actually insulin resistance has the ability to cause you many more health problems then simply being over weight.

The best treatment for insulin resistant people is a diet low in carbs. And that is the essential aspect of Atkins diet, limited intake of carbohydrates. So here some of the foods on restricted list: any foods with high percentage of sugar and also some complex carbohydrates (grains, rice and bread).

Sometimes even carbohydrates good for you like whole grain bread and rice can be off limits.

What Dr.Atkins diet do is that it places a restriction to your daily carbohydrate consumption to 40 grams of carbohydrates daily max. The consequence that this has on your body is that it places it in a state of ketosis.

What is ketosis? Essentially it is a condition in which your body burns fat for fuel. An additional important ketosis outcome is that it has a big influence on an production of insulin, which inhibits extra fat storing.

When combined this will compel your body to begin burning fat as a highly economical fuel source and this will have as result a weight loss.

During ketosis, you will in addition feel a good deal less sugar cravings. This has happened to all of us, you start munching a box of ice cream and there is no way for you to stop. As you eat more and more carbohydrates the more you will need them.

Many people who have tried Atkins diet have reported a great deal lesser want for carbohydrate consumption then previous to the diet. And yet you must know that the first stage of diet by Dr.Atkins is to a certain extent restricted, and actually tiring for lots of individuals to keep with. That is why many of them give up or do not achieve satisfactory results. You have to look at it from the correct perspective, Dr.Atkins diet is going to demonstrate to you how to return the balance in your diet for years to come.

If you look at it this way you will surely achieve something and will experience a significant drop of body fat. In due course as you proceed you will yet again start to reintroduce carbs to your everyday diet, the difference is you are now going to have the knowledge not to misuse them.

The original principles that are the basis of Atkins diet have since then been used on many new low carb diets, nevertheless the diet by Dr.Atkins was first and it remains the most popular to these days.

How To Maximize Your Aerobics Workout

Everyone knows how important working out is. However, not everyone knows the proper way to exercise and maximize the benefits of aerobics and a good aerobics workout. With a few simple steps, you can easily make the most of your aerobic workout.

One of the first steps in maximizing the benefits of aerobics is to understand why you need to work out. Probably the first thing that comes to mind is weight control. However, working out not only helps you lose weight, it is also good for your overall health.

Aerobics has a tendency to relax your muscles; therefore, relieving you of stress. Research has also shown that regularly exercising increases the production of endorphins. A good cardio workout can strengthen your heart, while reducing your risks of developing diabetes.

Now that you know some of the benefits of aerobics, it is important to know how to properly workout. Start by working out at the same time each day, totaling at least 2 hours a week. Setting a routine will help make your aerobic workout more of a habit than a chore. The more you work out, the easier it will be to actually work out.

In order to create total body fitness, you will need to incorporate both aerobics and strength training. In order to burn more calories, you need to build up your muscles. It takes less energy to move fat.

When first starting out, try to get in three workouts a week. Start with a short warm up, generally lasting 5-10 minutes. Follow the warm up with a strength training routine. Then, go into some more light aerobics for approximately 20 minutes. It is important to be careful to not overdo it when you start, since your motivation levels will be low if you strain muscles in your first workouts. It is equally important to realize that you are not going to see results immediately -- give it time! It took time to put those extra pounds on, and it will take take to get them off.

As you become more accustomed to working out, you can interchange your workout. One day do strength training and one day do aerobics. Keep in mind to not over do it. If you feel you need to take a day off or lessen the workout, be sure to do so.

You will want to increase your intensity slowly to avoid exhaustion. By starting slow and working your way up, you will also avoid extreme soreness and improve your fitness and health.

As a rule of thumb, you will want to do each set of strength training 8-12 times. Once you have mastered the particular exercise, try increasing the weight. Challenging yourself will not only improve the benefits of aerobics, but it will also keep you from getting bored. This also allows your muscles to build by requiring more of them, instead of doing something they can do easily.

Another technique is to find a workout partner. Having someone to workout with will keep you moving. A workout buddy will increase your motivation and make you more accountable for your workouts.

Working out can be very beneficial to your overall health. By learning proper techniques for working out you can greatly increase those benefits. The most important thing is to start off slow and gradually work your way up.

So, don't be in too much of a hurry to cut calories, give some time for your body to recover, It takes up to 6 months after pregnancy for your body to return to normal. Now you have a new baby to take care of. It will require all your energy, especially as you get to grips with "night-feeds". How To Lose Eight Pounds Per Month

There are several popular diets for quick weight loss out there that may or may not work in helping you acieve your goal of losing a few pounds quickly, however, the American Heart Association and just about every doctor, nutritionist and fitness experts has said that some these types of "quick fix" fad diets are not only bad for you, but also potentially dangerous and do nothing to really help you in the long run term. It's kind of like those "Payday Loan" places in a way. You know, you go in and get a loan until payday and everything seems great at the time, but then on payday you not only have to pay back what you borrowed, but you also must pay back a huge amount of fees. With these diets for quick weight loss the initial response that you get is when you get the loan, but the interest you must pay back could be gaining back even more weight than what you lost initially or suffering long term health issues from it.

Let's face it folks. There is no such thing as a "magic diet pill" that is healthy. Do you really want to risk your health in order to lose weight? Look at what happened recently to Anna Nicole Smith. The jury is still out on how she could have possibly lost all of that weight by using TrimSpa, a product that has now been scientifically proven NOT to work. The poor girl is gone, whether it was from what she was putting in her body or not, who knows, but I know that I personally have a family that loves me and I would never endanger myself in any manner just to lose a few quick pounds.

When are people going to get it through their heads that it takes time to gain weight, therefore, it takes time to lose weight. The only way that a person can lose weight is by burning off more calories than what they're taking in. The only healthy way to do this is by eating healthy foods, but monitor your calorie intake and start a regular exercise routine and stick to it.The weight will gradually come off, the same way that it gradually came on. You can expect to lose a pound or two per week, so if you need to lose twenty pounds you can expect it to take around three months, but you'll be doing it the healthy way. You'll not only lose the weight, but you'll also increase your muscle tone, increase your strength, improve your mental outlook, increase your metabolism, build your confidence and feel like a million bucks. For goodness sakes, stay away from those diets for quick weight loss. Swallow your laziness and get with a real diet program, the healthy way!

How to Look 5 Years Younger without Trying

When we are young, our idea of happiness is to look much older, usually the thought of being 21 seems to satisfy us. However, as time marches on we begin to think much differently for we see and feel the affects of our lifestyles both internally - in relationship to our health, and externally - in relationship to our appearance. Unlike what most of us have been taught to believe, our appearance can be no better than our weakest link internally. In other words, if you are toxic from poor elimination, poor diet, lack of exercise, wrong eating, or negative thoughts then there is virtually no chance of having a radiant glow outwardly. When we do internal cleansing then we automatically look younger without trying for it is just a reflection of our internal selves.

Internal cleansing or colonics, as many call it, is simple, relaxing, and non-invasive. The colon is the major elimination channel that the body uses to rid itself of all toxins (poisons). When the colon is not functioning properly due to sluggishness, fermentation or overload, than survival of the body will send these toxins into other areas to rid itself of poisons. Since the skin is the largest elimination channel (although not the first in line), the toxic waste will ooze from the skin. This creates an aging affect because of the discoloration, blemishes, wrinkles, and dryness. If the overload of toxins become even greater then it will force its way to the kidneys, liver, lungs, and lymph. The body aims to survive - with or without your help. That is why when we do anything in a positive direction we see tremendous results of appreciation from the body.

When we are not eliminating properly, deposits of fecal matter build up along the wall of the colon or in pockets of the colon. That is why even a mild case of constipation is a serious problem. In addition, fecal deposits can irritate the nerve endings in your colon, leading to a spastic or inflamed colon; these conditions interfere even more with nutrient absorption as well as proper bowel function. Digestive problems and allergies are responsible for constipation, with digestive problems being the cause of allergies and toxic build up in the colon being the ultimate source of all degenerative diseases.

Let's look at the opposite problem with many, which is diarrhea. Diarrhea is generally due to the presence of and irritation in the colon. Trying to expel the irritation substance, the body steps up the slow and gentle peristalsis of the colon to a rapid powerful emptying of whatever can be forced out. When this irritating substance is glued to the walls of the colon, it may not be expelled and the result is chronic diarrhea. Chronic diarrhea responds remarkable well to an effective colon cleansing program.

The lymph system is affected as well by the waste material in the body. In order to have the lymph drain freely, it is first necessary to have a clean colon. As soon as the colon is cleansed enough to relieve pressure on the lymph system, mucous is often seen in the stool. When this occurs, remarkable improvement takes place with chronic physical problems, rheumatoid diseases, asthma, hay fever, allergies, cystitis, eczema and other skin disorders.

There is no question that colon cleansing is the key to optimal health and optimal health reflects beautiful skin, which in turn makes us look younger without even trying.

How to Kick Your Sugar Cravings to Lose Weight

Research shows we typically eat more than 500 sugar calories a day, which can lead to a slew of health woes. But making a few lifestyle changes can stop the the sugar monster in its tracks! Follow these steps to weight loss:

1-Try to eat less meat. Surprising but true: Too much protein overloads your liver and stimulates excess insulin production, which can cause a spike and crash in your blood sugar levels that makes you want more sweets! The simple solution is to cut back to no more than four ounces of meat daily.

2-Have THIS before dessert: FIBER! Completely depriving yourself of the sweets you love will only make you more likely to binge on them in the future. So, have that fudge cake for dessert - just make sure to eat a fiber rich meal beforehand; one that includes, say, a slice of whole grain bread and a cup or more of fruit and vegetables. Fiber slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, so you can cheat a little on dessert without worrying that it will trigger spikes in blood sugar and cravings for more.

3-Indulge in a massage. There is a scientific reason why eating sweets helps fatigue disappear: It raises levels of the energy-boosting brain chemical dopamine. But there is a much healthier way to achieve the same results- get someone to give you a back rub. Studies show regular massages can increase dopamine levels by 31%! Giving yourself a hand or foot rub, or cuddling with a pet, works too.

4- Check food labels to be sure that barbeque sauce, salad dressing, hot dogs or other meats, cereal and juice drinks aren't loaded with sugar. Look for corn syrup and ingredients with "ose" at the end. Glucose, fructose, dextrose, lactose, and maltose all spell "sugar".

5- B12 gives you a great energy boost. While this may not take off the pounds in itself, it can get you up and moving. Many people don’t exercise because they’re just too tired at the end of a long day. With this extra energy, you can go to the gym or even just take a walk around the block. Plus, if you find your energy level dragging between shots, you can get more B12 in your diet to keep yourself going.

How To Get Abs Fast

With summer coming, you want to get in shape fast; the one thing people always complain about is the mid section. So I will tell you how to get abs fast. The first exercise I am going to tell you to try is called the tummy curl, which works the horizontal abs. Lie on your back with your knees at a ninety degree angle and your feet a bit higher than your knees. Then exhale and lift your butt in the air and roll back to your shoulder blades. Then inhale and roll back to the tailbone. Repeat this exercise twenty times.

The next exercise is the cross crunch, and it works the abs. Lie on your back and bend your knees at a ninety degree angle, then cradle your left hand behind your head. Lift your head and shoulders off the ground and reach across your body so the opposite hand is reaching to the other side of the body. Repeat twenty times, then switch sides and repeat another twenty reps for the other side.

The tailbone lift works the lower abs. To perform, lie flat on your back and extend your arms straight over your head. Exhale and lift your tailbone and then slowly lower, but don't drop to the floor. Repeat thirty times.

In combination with these exercises and a proper diet you can lose the fat and get abs fast. If you incorporate some cardio into your routine, such a going for a thirty minute walk everyday, plus these exercises, you will have the best body on the beach in no time. These exercises will work but it is not recommended that you do these more than five times a week and do not increase the reps unless you can handle it. Most people want to increase the workout because they think they will see results faster. This will only result in pulling or straining some muscles and then you can't exercise for a few days. It ends up slowing you down instead.

Do the exercises in moderation and eat in moderation and you will get abs in no time. Exercise and diet are a great combination. Just leave about two months or so before summer to get your abs in shape. These exercises will not work over night. Soon, you will be able to tell other people how to get abs fast!

How to Find the Last Weight Loss Program You'll Ever Need

With all of the weight loss programs available today, how can you possibly find the best one and avoid the scams? Although there is a lot of conflicting information out there, by following a few basic principles you can find a reputable and effective method to lose weight.

One of the first things to look for is a plan that is designed by a qualified professional. Depending on your particular goals, one type of professional may be better suited for certain goals but not for others. For instance, if you simply want to improve your eating habits, perhaps seeking the help of a nutritionist is in your best interest. A personal trainer might be a better choice for those who are generally healthy but wish to build up some muscle. Maybe you want to learn from someone who has been in your shoes before. Whatever the particular focus, the professional should be an expert in the area.

Most people looking to lose weight are actually trying to lose fat. While the two phrases may sound the same, they are completely different. Weight loss simply means to see lower numbers on the bathroom scale. The scale does not care if your weight loss comes from water, muscle or fat. It simply congratulates you when something goes down. Fat loss, on the other hand, means that you are losing most of your weight from fat and holding on to the precious muscle that you already have. Unfortunately, the scale is not able to determine when you have lost fat.

Assuming that you are focused on finding a program that will help you lose fat, the professional behind the program must understand the difference between weight loss and fat loss as well. They should not require that you follow a low calorie diet and tell you that exercise is optional. While that would be the easy way to lose weight, you will most certainly end up fatter in the long run. A sound plan will offer a reasonable nutrition and exercise plan that will work together.

Another quality to look for in your professional is trust. You must be able to trust them and know that they are providing you with objective and unbiased information. A professional usually cannot accomplish this if they are also trying to sell supplements or other weight loss products to you.

Of course nutrition and exercise is a given in any successful fat loss program and it is a must for any plan you are considering. Another component that is essential is having the proper motivation to stick with your plan. In fact, this may be the most important component of a program. Be sure to look for a fat loss program that also emphasizes goal setting and putting yourself in the right mindset to carry out your goals.

Finally, a great program will teach you all you need to know in an easy to understand manner while forming the groundwork for you to create healthy lifestyle habits that you can maintain. Once you find such a program, you’ll never need to look for another one again because it will actually work for you.

How To Build Your Own Sauna - Part 1 - Choose Your Heater

Saunas are becoming more and more popular worldwide. It’s no wonder that many people want to enjoy the benefits of their very own sauna, yet they don’t want to spend a small fortune to acquire one. If you consider yourself pretty handy, building a sauna for your home can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience that doesn’t break the bank. Before you begin you must make sure that the materials required fit into your budget and that you have ample space available for the sauna. One important question should be answered before you start your project.

How will you heat the sauna?

This is probably the most important question you should be asking yourself as it will determine many other factors.

For starters, there are many different types of heat you can use ranging from electricity, gas, or wood. The most popular choice is wood burning, as it provides a pleasant aroma and nostalgic atmosphere. However, you should know that there are drawbacks for going this route. First, a wood burning sauna uses wood. How will you acquire the wood? If you plan to purchase it, do you have enough money to continually buy wood throughout the year? How will you dispose of the ash? Do your local building regulations allow wood stoves? If not you may be in for a surprise. Also, many home-owners insurances do not provide coverage if you own a wood burning stove. For most, these drawbacks can be enough to deter them from owning a wood burning Sauna. There are other options though.

Electric stoves are becoming more popular for people that don’t want to deal with the hassles of wood. Electricity is also a very available form of heat, as nearly all homes already have electricity available. This makes it convenient for both indoor and outdoor saunas. Also, electricity is the primary form of heat that infrared saunas use. Infrared saunas produce radiant heat with special heaters that many people believe are much more beneficial than traditional saunas. If you plan to build an infrared sauna, electricity will probably be your source of heating.

Gas is also a very viable option for people as it is usually cheaper and more practical than both wood and electricity. Gas is fairly easy to obtain no matter where you live, and is for the most part, cleaner than both electricity and wood. If you choose to use gas as your sauna heating source, be sure to check the carbon monoxide levels around your home, or around the area you will be installing the Sauna.

Your decision on a heating source will also determine where you build and if it will be an indoor or outdoor sauna. Wood saunas are generally placed outdoors, as most owners do not want to deal with the inconvenience of hauling messy wood throughout the house. Your insurance policy may also require you to build the wood burning sauna outside, away from the home in a separate building.

Generally speaking, wherever you choose to build the sauna, there are plans and designs to help you overcome some of the obstacles of building a sauna. Designs and plans can be found all over the internet or can be as easy as calling a manufacturer. Good luck!

Many Las Vegas Showgirls have to get on the scale every week and if they gain weight they could get thrown out of the show. Always remember there are many people that dream of dancing professionally, and the casinos will not hesitate to throw a girl out and replace her for the slightest reason.

Once you feel you are good enough you can start sending in resumes. A resume should include each different style of dance that you know and how long you have been doing it, and it should also include all prior dance experience.

A good way to get experience is to get yourself in as many different things you can. Local theater groups are a great way to gain experience. Getting a job as a dance instructor Is also a good way to gain experience and practice at the same time.

By sending your resume to all the different casinos you can greatly increase your chances of getting at least one audition. Do not expect to get hired at the more popular casinos on your first audition. The bigger Las Vegas casinos usually like to hire girls with more experience, so you will probably have to work as a showgirl at a smaller casino first.

How to Achieve Real Progress on Your Workout

Why do you want to work out? This is the question you should ask yourself before you pick up a single dumbbell. Focusing on your fitness goals is like following a new year's resolution. You will be more successful if you set your objectives in line with your personal desires and priorities. For example, you may choose to work out in order to lose weight. That is perhaps the most common reason for working out. In such a case, you will become more motivated in your training the more you see your goals being achieved--through a shrinking waistline or a lower bathroom scale reading, perhaps.

There are many other reasons for you to work out--muscle increase, stamina, power, core strength, body shape, and overall health are some examples. You may even find yourself shifting from one goal to another, as your needs and priorities change.

In this article, I will focus on the fitness goal of muscle increase. That is my general objective. But to truly motivate myself, I need to set additional and more specific goals that can move me towards my objective. In the case of muscle increase, I set myself the goal of increasing my biceps size from 14 and a half inches to 15 and a half inches. It's a step, and it may not be a huge step, but it definitely brings me closer to my overall goal. The exact goal is something that will differ from case to case, depending on the individual. Anyway, I decided to purchase a pair of 35-pound dumbbells to use in curling exercises. Knowing what I wanted to achieve, I could tailor my training program to suit my requirements, and acquire the equipment necessary.

At the same time that I got the dumbbells, I purchased a 300-pound weight set for bench exercise. It's not that I regularly bench press 300 pounds, far from it. In fact, my current maximum press would be 180 pounds. I set an additional goal for myself--that I would be able to increase my maximum press to 200 pounds, a difference of 20 pounds. So why did I get a 300-pound set? Because I was looking ahead. I was certain I would reach my goal of 200 pounds, but when I did, the muscle gain may not be enough to satisfy me. I could foresee the day that I would be striving towards a 300-pound maximum. But I did not set that as my current goal, but chose to focus on a smaller measurable step.

That is a good approach to fitness training. Achieve your goals in a series of small measurable steps. Then you will be able to measure your progress and know when you are doing well and when you need to work harder. You will also be motivating yourself to keep training as you see progress happen slowly but surely. And your training progress will prove more effective when you set your sights on concrete goals instead of a single vague mission. That is something I learned the hard way. I got into fitness because I wanted to have a better body, but with no more specific goals and no way to concretely measure my progress, I lost spirit and ended up quitting. I have since learned my lesson and no longer have trouble motivating myself to keep working out. If you have trouble maintaining your fitness regime, I suggest you set yourself a number of clear, measurable goals, and that should keep you going.

How to Do a Proper Push-Up

Introduction
Push-ups aren't just for buff army trainees; they are great upper body, low-cost exercise. Here's the proper way to do them anywhere.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1. Step One
Lie chest-down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat on the floor and slightly more than shoulder-width apart, your feet together and parallel to each other.
2. Step Two
Look forward rather than down at the floor. The first contact you make with the floor with any part of the face should be your chin, not your nose.
3. Step Three
Keep your legs straight and your toes tucked under your feet.
4. Step Four
Straighten your arms as you push your body up off the floor. Keep your palms fixed at the same position and keep your body straight. Try not to bend or arch your upper or lower back as you push up.
5. Step Five
Exhale as your arms straighten out.
6. Step Six
Pause for a moment.
7. Step Seven
Lower your body slowly towards the floor. Bend your arms and keep your palms in fixed position. Keep body straight and feet together.
8. Step Eight
Lower body until chest touches the floor. Try not to bend your back. Keep your knees off the floor, and inhale as you bend your arms.
9. Step Nine
Pause for a moment. Begin straightening your arms for a second push-up. Exhale as you raise your body.
Tips & Warnings
- For easier push-ups, have an exercise partner place a closed fist underneath your chest. As you lower your body, touch your chest to the fist, pause, then raise your body. This is a little easier than touching your chest to the floor.
- For an easier exercise, lower your knees so that they rest on the floor. Keeping your back straight and your toes tucked under your feet, proceed with the exercise normally. This decreases the amount of pressure placed on your arms.
- Another variation of a push-up is the incline push-up. Leaning on a vertical surface, such as a wall, place your hands shoulder-width apart and slowly proceed with the normal exercise.
