How to Write Effective SEO Copy for Websites

All websites want to be listed at the top of the best known search engines. Website developers and business owners alike understand that an effective site involves more than simply spending time and money on a good design. The overall goal is to get visitors to the website and then make it 'sticky', using good, solid content to keep them there. In this context, design is only used as a tool to make the content visually appealing to the target audience.

Boosting a company's web presence is a crucial aspect of any good marketing campaign, and search engine optimization (SEO) is how successful websites get visitors, and keep them. Search engine optimization is the art of striking a balance between the words and phrases visitors use in search engines when looking for information, with website content that is written to appeal to site visitors.

The first step in creating effective SEO copy is to determine what keywords or terms site visitors are using to find your website and/or your competition. By using tools such as Hitwise or the less expensive alternative, WordTracker, you can find common terms and phrases your content should be built around.

The top search engines, Google and Yahoo, also have their own useful tools for determining which keywords are being searched on, and how much traffic you can expect to get for certain keywords and phrases. It's often best to be very specific when selecting your search terms too, choosing multiple word keyphrases instead of single words. For example, 'SEO copywriting' instead of just 'copywriting'.

Once your keywords and/or keyphrases have been identified, the next step is to build effective copy around those terms. Building naturally flowing content around specific terms and phrases may take some getting use to, especially if the phrases are a bit awkward. Despite these limitations, try and produce quality sentences. The general rule of thumb is to always write the content that appeals to and caters to your site visitors, even if it's not perfect for the engines.

Discovering which keywords your site visitors are looking for is the first step in writing SEO copy. Writing copy that motivates and interests your readers, while keeping focused on the purpose of the website (based on these terms) is next. Writing effective SEO copy takes time and practice, but the end result is a major boost in both your site's appeal to visitors and its overall search engine rank.

How to increase link popularity

There is a term used in the optimisation industry- “content is king”. This is very true. SE’s (Search engines) love content, especially regularly updated content. With this in mind, you must remember that “links are queen”. Having inbound links to your website is a very important factor of the SE’ s algorithms, if you want to increase your visibility on SE’s then you must increase the amount and quality of the links that point to your website. For many small to medium companies the cost of paying for a full time link building campaign is far too expensive.
Companies, webmasters and web site owners should be constantly trying to improve link popularity (inbound links to their website), an increase in inbound links will cause an increase in visibility on the SERP’s (search engine results pages).
The times of “a link is a link” have however passed. Reciprocal links should only be arranged with websites that are about the same topic or share similar content. Websites that reciprocate links with websites that are not similar are deemed as artificially trying to increase link popularity by the SE’s. One way inbound links are more valuable than reciprocals, and remember that it is the quality of links that also bears more weight. One link from an authoritative site with high PR (Page Rank) is worth many links from that friend of yours that just built his personal website!
Anchor text- This is the word or words that are used to link to your website. e.g. “seo consultant ” is anchor text that actually points to my home page www.goyam.com. This is often called the links “title”. Use the keywords that you would like a high ranking for as the anchor text.
For instance Smith LTD sell widgets of all shapes and sizes. They would like to rank well for the term “plastic widgets”. They start submitting their website for inclusion in free web directories. When asked for the anchor text or links title during submission it would be far more beneficial to use the text “plastic widgets” rather than Smith LTD.
With all this in mind you should start your link building campaign as soon as possible? Google will spider links to your website several times before accepting their importance, this process is known as “waiting for the links to mature”. This can often take several months.

So, here are my top 10 ways to get inbound links to your website.
1) Submit your website to free web directories. (Make sure you submit to the right category).
One of the most important free web directories to submit to is www.dmoz.org (the open directory) DMOZ is used by Google for all of the contents of their Web Directory. Many SE’s and directories also use DMOZ results for their directories. Google also gives a link to your site from DMOZ a lot of credit. Beware DMOZ is edited by humans and getting listed can take anywhere from 1-18 months, so the sooner you do it the better!

2) Submit your website to premium & paid web directories. (Make sure you submit to the right category).

3) Request website visitors link to your site.
Visitors to your website are there because they are interested in the content/products/services of your site. Ask them to link to your website, webpage. You can even supply the HTML code for them to link to your website. E.g. if you would like to link to this page please use the following code:

4) Write and distribute articles.
Write articles about your product & related services then submit them to article distribution websites. This is a very effective way of getting inbound links. The idea is you place a link to your website at the bottom of each article, then when webmasters use your article as free content for their website they must include the link at the bottom of the article.

5) Exchange links with other similar websites (reciprocal linking).

6) Contribute in forums.
Many forums allow you to place a signature at the bottom of every post. Place a link to your website with the use of anchor text and gain a link for every post you make. Also you may post links to your website in the main topic part of the forum. Do not spam though- Only post links when it is appropriate. It is better to be a good contributor to a forum than spam the forum with un relevant links.

7) Create a blog.
Create an informative blog about your product or services. “Bloggers” are linking fanatics. Get other “bloggers” to link/reciprocal link to your blog and then place links from the blog to your website.

8) Answer questions in Q+A websites.
It is easy to answer questions in places like Yahoo! Answers or Google Groups and provide links to relevant resources. (e g your website!)

9)Paid Links.
Some websites allow you to buy links from their website for a specific length of time.
Generally this is done from websites with high PR (Page Rank). And the purpose of it
is to increase a websites Page Rank.

10) Develop an easy to link to, informative site.
This goes back to “content is king”. If your website is of high quality, good information with no grammatical or spelling errors then web site owners will naturally link to your site

Increasing results through Geo-Targeted SEO

All the factors now encompassed in the world of search engine optimisation are both varied and simple, however time and time again website owners fail to see some of the most recent 'common sense principles' behind an effective and successful SEO strategy. This article aims to bring to light the most recent change in SEO, GEO-Targeting.

There are a countless number of directories, information portals, articles, FAQ's, Top 10 listings, and other resources that repeat each other about the most important factors of SEO and it's benefits. Many of them however fail to explain some of the more recent changes in the 'formula' of successful optimisation.

It has long been the case that users will open a search engine, search for a product or service e.g. "Office Furniture" and make use of that company to make their purchase or gain information.

Over the past few years' consumers and businesses have started to make many more purchases directly online, as the general attitude towards online transactions has changed quite significantly.

A change in trends

As the consumers and businesses have begun to accept making a purchase online as a normal course of action, the places that they look for these products and services has started to come under consideration.

If a company wants to purchase some office furniture they will no long simply search for "Office Furniture". Why? Because the term is too broad, brings up many irrelevant results and often the companies listed are not in the same geographic region as the company looking for the furniture.

When searching for products that are going to be purchased online, the customer ideally wants to be dealing with a 'local' company or business. This helps them feel more 'secure' in making the purchase as they know that the supplier is covered by the same laws, easier (and sometimes cheaper) to communicate with, and other factors such as delivery costs and language barriers are far more manageable, making the entire purchasing experience more streamlined.

What is Geo-Targeting?

It is during these searches that geo-targeting comes in as a factor of the search. If a customer is looking to buy office furniture and they are located in the USA, it is very common for them to append 'USA' to their search, so instead of looking simply for "office furniture" they will search for "office furniture USA" or a similar variation on this.

The effect of this is that the search engine results returned with be mostly UK based as 'UK' is a term used within the sites on their contact details, delivery information pages, legal disclaimer, and often company description pages.

Geo-targeted searching is the act of refining your search by including the name of a location within the search term. Examples would be "office furniture UK", "jewellers in Berkshire", "UK Office Supplies" etc.

Why use geo-targeting in SEO?

As explained earlier, users are changing the way that they search for information to find results close to their location. Many sites that are currently indexed do not really have a large amount of information to help search engines deem them 'relevant' to the appended location term, often because they simply don't have their intended geographic area for marketing mentioned on their site enough.

By including the intended geographic market in the keywords used with an SEO campaign and the optimisation performed on a site, it is possible to have a dramatic and successful increase in both top results, traffic to your website, and indeed potential customers finding your products.

It is very simple to include geo-targeted terms and phrases within the normal action of search engine optimisation and will go a long way to increasing the revenue a website can generate for it's owner.

There must be something bad about doing this?

Alienation of potential customers is always possible. If a user in the US is searching for simply "Office Furniture" and your website happened to show up with "UK Office Furniture" in it's title, it is more than likely that the searcher will skip visiting the website because it states that it is targeting the UK.

This can be seen as a positive in the sense that it actually has had the effect of qualifying your traffic even more. It just successfully stopped a user visiting your website that would have found out that your products are UK specific and that they could not purchase their requirements from your website anyway.

Of course this could also be a negative. If you 'mainly' target the UK but indeed sell to overseas clients this may have just lost a potential sale.

Should geo-targeting be used?

This brings us to an important decision. Should geo-targeting be used in an SEO campaign? The answer depends solely on the target audience or geographic region of the products and services provided.

Should your product be for a specific area or country, or you tend to only deal with local businesses then yes, you should certainly look to be geo-targeting your optimisation to increase your sales.

The second situation is that some of your products or services are available to many areas while others are not. In this instance simply use selective geo-targeted optimisation within each of the products or services sections.

Lastly, if your target market is not constrained by geographic regions and is available anywhere, such as online services or products that have worldwide delivery, then more than likely geo targeted optimisation is not an option. Of course, it could be that producing several "global market" sites that are tailored for your most prominent geographic regions could help improve sales as each of these additional sites can be optimised with geo-targeting separately.

The key is that geo-targeting an SEO campaign can make a tremendous difference to all factors of a websites success. It is simply a case of deciding if it is a viable option for the products and services the website provides.

How to Increase Web site Traffic with SEO Services

Website Traffic:

Increasing web site traffic and Revenues have always been the aim of all internet marketing strategies. At the end of the day, you create a website so that people can visit it and you can get the desired result. You can do it by selling a product or a service and this could be your own or for another company. But if there is no traffic then there will be no sales, which means no profits. When we say traffic, it doesn't mean just about anyone visiting the Internet but a targeted traffic that consists of visitors who will buy your product or use your services.

There are of course many ways or methods to bring traffic to your website but we are going to look at only the ones which have proven to be successful. In all, you can use three internet marketing strategies to get targeted traffic to your website and they are:

Pay-Per-Click/PPC: This is a perfect plan if you have a marketing or advertising budget. Pay-per-click campaigns offered by Google or yahoo don't need you to spend too much money but it all depends on how effectively you are able to choose the right keywords for your advertisement. In a Pay-per-click campaign, you have to create an advertisement that is relevant to your product or service and place a bid on the keywords you select. So the primary concern is the keyword. You will have to do some research to find the right keywords and also understand how each keyword is associated with your product or service offering and how they can actually drive traffic. If you have a website selling travel tours, you can use keywords like trekking and hiking, honeymoon packages. If a visitor is looking for a travel tour company and sees your advertisement with the right keywords then he will definitely click on it and you will have to pay for every click.

Link Building: The second method of effectively bringing traffic to your website is through link building. Link popularity startegies can be free and also paid. In the paid method, you will be either paying a membership fee for submission of your website link to multiple directories, and ezines. It can prove to be costly if you are approaching too many vendors. To cut down the cost, you need to approach only those ezines, which have a higher page rank and where there are more than 500 visitors a day or more than 500 members. The free linking method on the other hand requires a lot of hard word and you will have to search for them. Again remember, don't just go around putting your website link in just about any directory. Relevance is important hence approach only those directories or ezines, which have your product or service as one of their sections. There are many ezines where you can even submit optimized articles with your link free. These ezines probably have thousands of such articles but it will help in the long run to create visibility.

Organic Search Engine Optimization: The third and one of the most effective methods of increasing web traffic is Organic search engine optimization or SEO. Organic SEO is basically a method by which you can optimize your web pages so that you can start with a decent ranking by the search engines, and then work your way up. As the ranking increases, so does the web traffic. It is a long process but quite effective. Your website can be search optimized only when you use strong and relevant content on your website. The content should not just be attractive but will also be informative and keyword rich. If you are selling a service then provide as much information as possible without making the page too long. Again, try to keep the content within 500-700 words a page. Any longer than that, people will start losing interest. No one really has the time to read so much. People have come to your website to find a solution and hence you should focus more on providing the solution through good navigation, great content and refined information.

Once you have applied the three methods, your work doesn't end. You need to also monitor if your website is getting the relevant website traffic or not. There are times when you may get only 40 are visitors who came to your website out of curiosity or by accident. You can have a form on your website that visitors can fill so that you will get to understand their psychology.

Do it Yourself or hire a SEO Services Company?

Web optimization techniques are pretty complicated but anyone dedicated and willing and able to invest time to learn them can acheive a certain level of expertize. Certain competitive keywords will require professional help. If your site is a business and your budget allows you to do so, It is suggested you hire a professional SEO expert as doing it yourself will be extremely time consuming and may not even lead to noticeable outcomes.

How to use Overture/Yahoo paid search to generate website traffic

Overture or now known as Yahoo because of Yahoo’s takeover, was the original inventor of the use of the P4P or Pay for Performance. Overture saw that the internet was fast becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising was going to hit at an all time high because of the many businesses in the arena.

To get a person to go to a site than others, it needs to be very visible. Providing ads that could direct potential consumers and costumers to their site would allow them to have an increase in traffic as well as sales. Yahoo provides a service that can put a site or company’s ad in their sites that can be shown when certain keywords are inputted.

Yahoo offers a chance for any company to increase their traffic by using their services. With more people being aware of your site, there would be more traffic and visitors to your site given the chance to view your pages as well as your products. With even a small percentage of successful sales, with a high traffic volume this could still be a substantial figure for your company.

Getting a consistent substantial flow of website visitors is every company’s goal. Many methods are devised and utilized to ensure that there would be more people to boost the sales and to be aware of the existence of such a product or service. Website visitors are potentially the life blood of your internet based business.

Yahoo/Overture utilizes the same principle as Google’s Adwords. In fact, they are very similar to each other that they use keyword and keyword phrase searches and to determine which ads to show per search. When a person types in a keyword or keyword phrase to search for anything, the search engines gives out the results in a page. Then at the right side of the page, you will see selected ads that have paid for their ads to be viewed with certain keywords and keyword phrases searched.

For example, Lets say you run a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that can prompt or trigger your ads to be shown in the page when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types in Honda Accord, your ad may come up if you have designated that as one of your keywords. You don’t need to fully optimize your site with Search Engine Optimization methods and techniques.

While some labor so hard to make their site one of the high ranking sites per keyword search, you get the chance to be on the top of the list or at least in the first page of a search result increasing your chance to be clicked on. With that, you drive traffic and website visitors to your site a lot faster.

You will have to pony up some cash when using this service though. There are different ways Yahoo/Overture will charge you. It may be in the number of Keywords or Keyword phrases your ad uses or in the many times your ad is clicked on. Others offer many other services like having your ad show up not only in the search engine pages but also with some third party sites.

Third party sites support ads that have the same theme or niche as them. With more areas your ad is shown, you increase the chances of people knowing about your site or product. With more website visitors you increase the sales of your site which makes your investment with your ads a wise one.

With so many competitions in the internet based businesses, it is necessary to take a huge leap forward from the pack by advertising. Yahoo/Overture will be a great place to start. Many have utilized their services and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It’s a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors as well as increase your sales resulting to profit.

It takes money to make money, while there are some methods that are basically low cost or free, using a marketing service such as what Yahoo/Overture offers will provide results faster and on a larger scale. Many businesses have learned this the hard way, don’t be counted with them.

How to Improve Your Link Pop on a Tight Budget

There are a lot of different ways to improve your link pop that don't cost a cent.

Unfortunately, these methods can be very time-consuming. But, you get what you put into it. And even if you only spend an hour a day constantly striving to increase your PR, it will be an hour well spent.

First, email all the websites you can and simply ask for a link. You'll be surprised at how many people say yes. Politely explain that you'd like to increase your traffic, and explain why you think his or her site's users have something to gain from visiting your homepage. Enclose a pre-made html coded link so that if they agree, it's a simple cut-and-paste job.

Next, start on your linking campaign. Again, try emailing webmasters and explain that your sites' readers can benefit from reading both websites. Show them where you will prominently post their link, and politely ask for the exchange. If your site contains helpful information, they will most likely say yes.

You can in addition try posting testimonials about other sites on your homepage. When you're finished, send a link of your comments to the webmaster. Who would pass up the opportunity to brag about a great review?

Next, start writing free articles for popular article directories (search "article directory" in Yahoo! or Google for submission options). This allows people to read your work and publish it for free. Make sure to include a Bio Box that includes a link to your site. Stipulate that the article may be reprinted for free as long as the Bio Box is included. This will instantaneously provide extra links to your page when people reprint your work.

Be sure to post comments in discussion groups and on message boards. Make useful, relevant statements based on topics being discussed. Comments that only contain a link will usually be deleted or banned. If you make worthwhile contributions, people will definitely want to find out what else you have to say by visiting your site.

If your site distributes a newsletter, start a contest for ad space. Offer to advertise a website in your publication to the sites that offer you a free link.

Finally, submit your website to as many relative sites as you can that accept free one-way links or offer a link exchange, A great new tool to help you get this done quickly and easily is called Backlink Submitter found at backlinksubmitter.com

Also submit your website to as many directories as you can. Webmasters readily agree that directory submission is the BEST way to gain targeted traffic to your site. By listing your site in a directory, web users will view your page as a reliable resource tailored specifically to their search criteria. You can submit to directories such as Yahoo! Directory for about $300. However, if you're operating on a smaller budget it is better to take the time to submit to several small directories. It is much more time-consuming but you can ultimately achieve the same results!

For a faster way to submit to over 2000 quality, specialized directories (at less than 1/3 of the price of Yahoo!), directorysubmitter.com

How to Use Google PR to Incite A Web Sales Explosion

"Page Rank," sometimes abbreviated PR, was developed by Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Here is how Google describes the "Page Rank" system: Page Rank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Important, high-quality sites receive a higher Page Rank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines Page Rank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query. Page Rank is rated on a scale of PR-0 to PR-10. A site with a ranking of PR-10 is much higher than one rated PR-0. When a site has a high page ranking, there will be more opportunities for search engine users to locate and view the site. Thus, more traffic will be routed to that site because it is viewed by the web community as a valuable resource.

What Does This Mean For You?

Well, it all goes back to link pop... If you have a ton of quality, relevant, incoming one-way links to your website, your Google PR is going to shoot through the roof!

A high Google PR means more exposure for you. Heightened exposure leads to more visitors, and more visitors basically means bigger sales. Simple enough.

Ask any successful web developer how to inexpensively gain quality non-reciprocal links and they'll tell you: Find and exchange links with as many websites that relate to your own and also submit to as many directories as you can.

Finding websites to exchange links with can be a very time consuming process if done manually but there are now many software titles on the internet that will make the job a lot simpler and save you loads of time as well and one of the best is called Backlink Submitter and it can be found at http://www.backlinksubmitter.com

Don't forget about directories, they are viewed by web users as a quick and easy way to find valuable resources tailored specifically to their search. As a result of directories' popularity, a submission to a lot of them will generate a great deal of targeted traffic.

There's only one problem: The directory submission process is long and tedious. Some directories, such as Yahoo! Directory, cost up to $300 for one submission. If you're operating on a tight budget, you are better off spreading your money over many smaller directory submissions. Unfortunately, that can take a lot of time.

If you're looking for a better solution, http://www.directorysubmitter.com to find out how to get listed on 1000 of the most popular specialized directories online in a matter of a few hours… all for less than the cost of one website advertisement.

How to Choose a Good SEO Consultant

If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon, or make a better mousetrap than his neighbor, though he build his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

This may have been correct in the business paradigm of the 19th and 20th century, but in the new paradigm of the Internet, it no longer holds true - especially if you substitute ‘house’ with ‘website’. Over 88% of Americans who shop online use Search Engines to conduct research on what they are buying (Source: SEMPO) and the three large search engines have over 80% of the market between them (Source: Search Engine Watch). This means that you must achieve good ranking in one or all of these search engines in order to reach your target customers. Because search engine optimization (SEO) is better left to an expert, this means you must choose a SEO consultant to enhance your web presence and maximize site usability, thus increasing your profits.

You would choose a SEO company the same way you would assess any company you were going to purchase a service from. Find out how long they've been in business, and see if they'll tell you exactly how it is they do their work. Ask them about their previous work and clients and check if you can use these clients as references.

Check their methodology. Don’t expect exact specifics, but ensure they are offering more than just ‘submission services’ and ‘meta-tag optimization’. Look for their ability to perform on-page optimization, to improve site architecture, to research good keywords, and to optimize content, and to do link building. SEO doesn’t use a “magic bullet” and it takes a variety of techniques to improve search engine placement. If they have a blog, read a few of their posts and see if their techniques make sense or come across as being “tricky”.

Make sure that the SEO consultant has thorough, up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the major search engines and their algorithms. These algorithms are ever changing and improving so the consultant should be able to show that he/she keeps up with the ever changing markets by belonging to various forums, discussion groups and peer organizations.

Look at their affiliations. Do they belong to the Better Business Bureau (BBB)? Do they belong to any of the search engine marketing or online advertising trade associations? Who are their clients? Are their clients reputable? You can usually get a good indication of a company’s reputation by seeing who they align themselves with or who they don’t.

Another overlooked factor to check is this: Do they rank naturally for SEO related keywords? If they cannot even rank their website for even one reasonably competitive keyword phrase, this should set off some alarm bells. After all, how can a SEO company do something for you that they can’t even perform for themselves?

Search engine optimization is not a ‘once-off’ magic pill to get you to the top of the rankings, and beware SEO consultants who offer this. Ensure that your SEO consultant not only can increase your ranking but can keep you there with a maintenance program. Check to see what the long-term strategy is going to be employed on your behalf.

Finally, enquire about their business methods. Do they subscribe to the Best Practices for the SEO/Search Engine Marketing Industry? Are they using white hat or black hat SEO techniques? All these are questions are important considerations for choosing the right SEO for your business.

How to win the SEO war in 2007

Of all the challenges that webmasters face, SEO is one of the most daunting. For the lay-men, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, meaning how you as a webmaster can get Google, Yahoo, and MSN among others to rank your website in the top search results for the keywords you are targeting. When I personally approach SEO, I do not look at it as just a single task at hand. Instead, I break it down, most notably into 2 main categories that I can focus on.

In its simplest form, I like to divide SEO down into 2 more manageable areas. The first of two categories is On-site Optimization, and the second area, predictably is Off-site Optimization. Both are important, many webmasters do not grasp or utilize this. Some of them preach that on-site optimization is truly the only important form of SEO, while others will tell you that off-site optimization is what will get you top rankings in the search engines. But the real deal is that they are both important, and you should not ignore either of them. So what is the difference between the two.

In a nutshell, On-site optimization is doing everything necessary to optimize your own webpage. Off-site optimization is the Link Popularity, Link Relevance, and anything else that is not a direct manipulation of your own webpage. For a good example of just how powerful Off-site optimization is, Google the word failure. It is pretty safe to say that George Bush is not optimizing for that term anywhere on the Whitehouse webpage. In my opinion, the key factors of SEO, in no particular order are:

1) Link Popularity and Link Relevance (Off-site) 2) Internal Linking Structure (On-site) 3) Content Relevance (On-site) 4) Crawl-ability / Code Optimization (On-site)

This might seem like an over simplification of SEO, which in some regards it is. However, the key factors that I just mentioned above are the basis and are easily broken down into much finer detail, such as the kind that you may find in an in-depth book or report. An important thing to keep in mind in 2007 is that getting high rankings on the Search Engines is not going to happen overnight, sometimes not even for months, just because you have optimized your webpage. If this were 7 or 8 years ago, then keyword stuffing and meta-tags would work just fine. But that tactic will just not cut it in todays competitive search engine market. Do not let this dissuade you though. Just make sure that you utilize a balanced attack of on-site and off-site optimization, by the use of social-networking sites, link partnering, quality content, text link campaigns and more.

How To Avoid Being Cheated By Your SEO Company

Search engine optimization (SEO) can be a time consuming and tiresome task, even for the experienced guru. Outsourcing this to a company is a good thing and will save you a lot of time and problems. However what you do need to know is that among the good companies out there are some companies who will employ “black hat” SEO tactics that will get you into a lot of trouble with the search engines not to mention all the lost sales that will occur.

Firstly let me explain what “black hat” tactics means. These are when Search engine optimization companies do not play by the search engine rules and try to cheat them. Examples are:

Spamdexing:
Doorway pages:
Hidden text
Keyword stuffing:
Link Spam:
Mirror sites:
Cloaking:

To avoid being taken for a ride by these companies and worse yet facing being banned by the search engines it is best to take a few precautions. Firstly educate yourself in the basic rules of SEO. Do not go into a contract with your eyes closed.

The rules are simple:

- Make your site full of quality content
- Link to good complimentary sites who will be good resources to your visitors
- Optimize your site by sprinkling your keywords not keyword stuffing
- What is good for your visitors will also be good for the search engine robots.
- Do not indulge or let your SEO company do any of the above.

Here are some things to check with the SEO Company.

- What methods are they going to use to get you in the top 10?
- What services are they proposing to include in the package they are offering you?
- What search engines will they be targeting-the main 3 are Google, Yahoo, and MSN
- Are they guaranteeing you that your site will be at least among the top 10 in these 3 search engines.
- Check out their experience-check for testimonials or how long they have been in business.
- What are the specific startup fee and maintenance costs to keep you in a good position.
- Make sure you have a formal contract signed and written down on paper. This can be faxed rather than emailed. Be sure you know what you are paying for and that there are no hidden costs.
- Be aware of the “black hat” techniques and be sure these are not being used. Check other sites that they have worked for.
- You can check the source by going to view to check for any HTML codes and tags that are not compliant with the search engines.
- Check the content that it is properly optimized and is not using any keyword stuffing techniques.
- Be straight with the SEO Company and make it clear you do not want any of these “black hat” tactics.

With these few points you will be able to save yourself a lot of time and problems. It is wise to take a little thought before outsourcing important jobs like SEO. When you do this you can avoid being cheated by your SEO company and getting into unnecessary problems. Shop around for the most competitive price. Always make sure you are in close contact with your SEO company as they will be your strong partners in your website promotions.

How To Choose the Right SEO Content Services

Much discussion is out there and found in various forms such as forums, ezines, blogs & sites that help educate you on what is happening in the SEO world. SEO Content without a doubt and no matter where you read it, is the same message... it is absolutely a must have if you want to gain any natural positions in the search engines. Hence we get into the whole bit about SEO Content Services. Questions arise as to which companies can really provide these services in the proper way.

Before I get into how to properly look for a SEO Content Service worthy of your time, I want to ask a question first, a bit of a personal question about your character. How easily are you persuaded into products and services? Now, to be fair I am not challenging your intelligence I want to make a point. The point being that most of us are generally in a position that we have worked very hard and want to see pay off for all our hard work. Knowing this passion we have companies have chosen to prey upon us like thieves. Yes, these companies know we are desperate for results, that we have a certain amount of funds we are willing to sacrifice in the name of gaining exposure and prey on those things to get us to buy their products with their amazing words and promise of making our money back on our small investment.

What is this really saying about us? I say us because we are all in the same position. It says that we know the results we want but not really sure on how to get it. We know enough to get our selves into spending hours of our time to figure out even if in the end it does not work out. Worse yet, we will keep trying until we get it right. Now, I hope I got you thinking because what is next may be one of the biggest time savers I can ever offer you. We know that in order to get results on the world wide web you need to be found in the search engines and not just any but the top search engines. When I say the "top search engines" what comes to mind? I bet we all have at least 1 of 2 that flashed to our heads instantly (Google & Yahoo). Yes there are others, but we know enough about this to understand that those 2 for sure we must climb to the top on. We also know that we need quality content which usually begins our search for an SEO Content Service.

Here is a small list to help you quickly weed through all the hype and promises of making tons of money:

1. No SEO Content Service can guarantee any position with any keyword, because only the Search Engines really know how they work and they know they change all the time which in return changes results.

2. Search for a service online and look for those sites that are getting natural results. What I mean is, make sure they are found on the first and second pages and not in the paid advertisement areas. Why choose a company that is not getting results in a manner that they are now offering you as a service? Because it means that possibly they can't!

3. Read the content of the website you are researching carefully and decide if it makes sense or not. This is important because some services know how to fill up a site with keywords but when you get to reading it, it is not clear what they are writing about. Example here is you do a search find a site on the first page of Google, you think "alright, I found a company that can do what they say" but then you read through the content and you are totally lost now and not sure what they are offering. Do you want to loose business because people are unclear about what you offer?

4. Start a dialog with the company you found and see if they are responsive to you. Look for things like a way to contact them online and on the phone. I am sure you don't want to sign up for a service, pay them and now you are waiting for your services to be taken care of and now you are wasting more time.

5. Watch out for mass marketing emails and phone calls of people trying to sell you their services and saying all the right words. Yes, look at 1 -4 here and make sure you can apply these tips.

6. Watch out for companies who look you into long term contracts! These "seo experts" will convince you that you need to be on a program for a long time to get results. While this may be true, that doesn't mean if for some reason you need to stop because after 6 months you are not seeing any results that you must stay with them. A true SEO Company will not need to lock you into a long term contract because if they provide the services they claim there should be no worries then.

7. Understand most of all that there are no instant results in SEO services. To get natural results this does take time. Know also that when using SEO Content Services this is to help build your sites reputation to the search engines as a trusted source and a site that delivers what the searchers are looking for.

To sum this up, choose based on real results not empty promises. Many SEO services or even tools have no real effect without quality SEO content. Filling your site up with a ton of keywords but not focused on giving people facts about your company and services is only going to hurt you. Pick the SEO Content Service that can provide you with your needs.

How to SEO your website?

If you are running a website or an online business, the probability that you are not aware of the term 'SEO' is almost negligible. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is the most modern technique to advertise a website over the internet. By proper utilization of the SEO methods, one can increase the traffic to his website and hence his business on the whole.

In the early days of SEO, the main practice employed was the optimization of content present on the webpage. The internet users searching for specific information did so by entering a specific phrase in the search engines. These phrases were split into words and different websites over the internet were searched for the presence of these words. These words are known as the 'keywords'.

Presently, many more methods of SEO have come into practice. These methods mainly deal with link sharing, link building and boosting the page rank of the webpage. The first method among these is called link sharing. It is known that search engines show those sites which have traffic originating from a greater number of websites higher up in the ranking. Hence, website owners have found a method to increase incoming traffic by placing the links to each other's website on their webpages. This method is mutually beneficial to both the websites.

The second method is termed as link building. Link building relies on placing a number of incoming links to your website on different websites with similar content. Link building is different from link sharing in the sense that you do not have to post the links to any other website on your web page. The best ways to succeed in this technique are: a) Submitting your website link to paid or free web directories, b) Posting articles containing your website link to various article directories, and c) Posting comments on popular blogs and forums with link to your website in your signature.

The third method deals with improving the page rank of your webpage. The page rank is nothing but importance that the search engine gives to the content on your webpage. For instance, a page ranked higher will receive a better position in the search results than a page ranked lower. The main thing you have to do to achieve higher page ranking is to optimize the content on your webpage. Secondly, you need to see that your website has traffic coming in from a number of other websites. Hence, look into the possibility of link trading in this case.
