What you really need to determine is what ARE you going to be using it for, and what capabilities and functionality do you REQUIRE (not just merely “want” or find somewhat cool or desirable) with your cell phone and cellular service? If you don’t define this BEFORE you start shopping, it is almost inevitable that you are going to be spending more than you need to, perhaps to a significant degree.

The first thing to note is where you will be using your cell service the majority of the time. Find out what carriers have the best coverage in your area. Again, this is critical. For example, if you save $10 per month but the carrier’s coverage in your area is marginal, how useful is your cell service if you drop one out of 3 calls, and the other calls make you sound like you are calling from the bottom of a bathtub?
Regarding the actual cell phone, unless you are just dying for a particular model phone (and you should not be), choose the cell carrier before you choose which phone you need. There are very few cell phones that have features that are particular to only one carrier.
Standard equipment would be a decent battery life giving you about 3 hours of talk time. The built-in cameras take pictures of a quality that is merely “ok” and will not win any awards, and you will likely use that feature minimally if at all after the novelty wears off. The ability to be an MP3 player? Bag it – it will drain your battery faster and does not deliver the quality of an MP3 player that was actually DESIGNED to be an MP3 player. It provides 10-15 seconds of full motion video? Yawn. You won’t use it after the novelty wears off, but you WILL be paying for that functionality. It has a built in PDA with organizer functions? It will kill your battery life.

Bottom line on the cell phone itself: let the cell phone function as a cell phone, and don’t try to force it into performing functions that it was not designed to do, because that will only drive up the price, and it will not do any of those things as well as a device that was designed to do them.

Let’s say you have narrowed your carrier choices down to 2, maybe 3. Now let’s look at the plans. Who will you be calling mostly? T-Mobile has plans that allow you to select 5 people that you call most frequently and gives you unlimited minutes to call them. Sprint and Verizon usually allow you to call other cell customers of theirs on an unlimited basis. What about nights and weekends? Most carriers provide unlimited nights and weekends. Note that despite the position of the sun in the sky, “night” doesn’t start until 9:00pm, or with Sprint and an extra $5 per month, “night” can begin at 7:00pm.

How many “anytime” minutes do you need? Be generous here, because you could be paying as much as 30 cents per minute or more as soon as you go over your allotted anytime minutes. Yes, every time you call your voicemail from your cell phone, that goes against your anytime minutes.

Finally, your best bet is to buy online. In this age of “immediate satisfaction”, your desire is to waltz into the cellular carrier’s retail store, and walk out of there talking on your shiny new cell phone. Don’t do it. Go into the retail store to get a hands-on view of the phones you are considering, but with the spotlights, the shiny chrome cases, and a sales rep smiling like he’s auditioning for Jaws, avoid the temptation. You can always find at least an EQUIVALENT deal online, and very frequently the online resource will also throw in some extras like a carrying case, a car power adapter, a travel adapter, and a hands-free kit, which would cost nearly another $100 if you get it at the carrier’s retail outlet.

Bottom line: define what you want and be smart about it. A cell phone can be a great thing, but you need to feel good about having done the proper research to get a great deal on it.

How To Choose Between Cable TV and Satellite TV

First of all, virtually nobody has an antenna anymore to watch TV, not even my grandparents who live literally in the middle of nowhere. It just doesn’t make sense and with the new technologies and broadcast standards coming into play within the next few years, it is a major question mark as to whether or not traditional broadcast TV will even be available. So you have two choices, how do you decide what is best for you?

Cable TV is a good option. Not excellent, perhaps not the best, but good. On the plus side, cable TV provides good picture clarity, good reception, and very few problems. Most cable TV providers can also give you HDTV (High Definition TV), although they will charge you more for it and you will need an enhanced cable box to really take advantage of all that HDTV brings to the table. And of course, the TV that you own must be able to display HDTV, and if your TV was manufactured more than 3-5 years ago, that might be a huge question mark that you should find out before you pay extra money for HDTV capabilities.

On the downside, it is expensive, typically a noticeable amount more expensive than the satellite TV counterpart. The basic cable service gives you a truckload of channels to choose from and you can also opt for (at additional cost) to have a Chinese menu of premium channels available, like sports channels, various movie channels, and more.

One thing to note is that your cable company MAY be willing to cut you a deal if they are also providing you with high-speed cable Internet access. It is worth checking into, but keep the bottom line cost in mind, as it really may not be a deal at all. Your cable company is probably also willing to provide you with a VOIP phone where you can make and receive phone calls over your high-speed Internet connection. Be aware of this because getting VOIP service from your cable provider is very likely your WORST and most cost INEFFECTIVE option! Satellite TV is typically a better choice, and almost always more cost effective. Yes, you can still get HDTV with a satellite TV connection. The picture quality will be equal to or better than what you get with cable. Your satellite dish will need to be mounted on the outside of your house and will require a clear and unobstructed view of the southern sky (in the US). The only real detriment to satellite TV is the fact that the picture quality can degrade during times of heavy rain or heavy snow. If you live in an area where this might be a frequent occurrence, this problem can be resolved for the most part by opting for a larger satellite dish, which will be more efficient at capturing the signals.

If you live in a rental house or an apartment, you will likely need to get permission from your landlord to mount your satellite dish on the building. If your particular neighborhood is big on aesthetics, they may not allow this, so be sure you have permission before placing your order.

The major satellite TV providers today, Dish Networks and DirecTV, typically offer free installation in up to 4 rooms of your home, and also provide free equipment, sometimes also including a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). During promos, you can sometimes also get about 3 free months of movie channels and sports channels to see if you like them. The provider is of course hoping you will like them and upgrade your account to include those channels.

From a picture quality perspective, both options are good. From a cost perspective, satellite wins almost every time.Understand the pros and cons of each choice so you can make the decision that is best for your particular situation.

How to Actually Get a Free Laptop or Plasma TV

I had tried several of these sites in the past. Every time I would see the message you are almost done just one more offer to go. I'd fill out an offer and then again I'd see this message. Usually after 30 to 45 minutes I'd just give up. I thought this was some sort of gimmick to get you to sign up for different things. After speaking with several of the site owners, the ones that have the pages with all the offers, I found out that whether I get all the way to the end or not the site owner still collects from the company that has the offer.

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from a friend that had a mention about learning how to actually get the rewards like the free laptop or Plasma TV. I was skeptical but I said why not, if it costs too much then I'll simply go on to something else. The site, the sales page, said all I need to do to get the manual they created was complete one offer that would only cost me maybe $2 so I said what the hey. I filled out an offer that cost me a dollar and then I was taken to their online course on how to actually make money from these sites and get the prize awards.

I spent that entire weekend going through their online course and every once in awhile I would go to a site they would mention and try what I learned, I was extremely impressed. This stuff was actually working just like they said it would. I learned that there are these trade boards out there where people buy and sell what are called 'Green' which are completed offers. Usually one of these offer sites will tell you that you need to complete 1 offer plus give them lets say 10 referrals. On these trade boards you can pay for referrals who then have to go to these boards using you referral link and complete an offer.

I thought that after I completed this course that I would then put together a video which I could then resell at maybe $47 but after giving it some more thought I thought it would be easier just to refer people to this site. I won't be making like $47 but how many people have to visit a sales page before somebody actually buys? I've heard of marketers who maybe out of 1000 people referred to their sales page that they may make like only 10 sales. A total of maybe $470 gross. I'd rather just refer you to the site and let you in on the same offer that I received.

I actually put this knowledge to use the next week and earned about $100. Not bad for work that only took up a couple of hours of my time. Now if somebody decides to do this then I recommend that they get this free software called greencheck which will let them know when one of the offers you are working on goes green. Some sites you may have to complete 3 offers to get one credit and one credit equals one green. Some sites credit instantly and some take several days but you must learn how to keep on following up on these offers because you only get paid when an offer goes green.

Also, this is not something where everybody in your household could do this because one of the rules that these offer sites have is that only one person per household can do an offer. Now you may think that you can have everybody in your household doing these if you keep track of the offers that each one does. This doesn't work either because you internet connection has one IP address even though each computer in the house has a different one. These sites, the ones with all the offers on them. If they see more than one person from the household having the same IP address as another they will then suspend your account permanently and usually this happens after you have completed several offers which in the end means you just spent money that won't be recovered because they then will take back your greens.
